Silverlight debug problem & solution

You can run a Silverlight project, but can not debug the Silverlight code. The debug point is not reached at all. What could be the reasons & how to solve it?


1. Is this issue with any silverlight applications on your machines or a specific app?To know this you can create a test silverlight app & try to debug that.

2a. if issue with all sl apps, check if Silverlight runtime is same developer_runtime, if not install it

2b. if issue is with specific app, in vs web-project properties make sure that the debugging check boxes are, sql-no asp-yes silverlight-yes native-no

3b. if 2b does not work then, check if the website is actually using right xap? - Remove Silverlight app from website - Delete whole ClientBin folder - Add SL app again

Does anyone has additional steps to resolve this (based on experience) ??

How to store and read news/articles offline?

So you are someone who regularly reads articles/news items from news/tech site or a blog
There is a technique to store these in your smart-phones/tablet & read them offline! and its automatic

Step 1: Create your ifttt account (if not already)

Step 2: Create your Pocket (http://getpocket.com/) account.

Step 3: Get url your favourite feed for example
Seth Godin's feed (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/atom.xml)
or Most commected TOI articles (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/rssfeedmostcommented.cms)

Step 4: Install Pocket on your Smartphone or tablet

Step 5: Go to ifttt website & create a task
If 'new items' in your feed
Then 'Save for later' to your pocket

That is all you need..
ifttt will read the feed & give them to pocket, which will save articles when you are online & you can read them later.. offline!

An interesting question from one of the MVVM Light users today:

Is there an MVVM-friendly way to get a DataGrid’s SelectedItems into the ViewModel?

The issue there is as old as the DataGrid (that’s not very old but still): SelectedItem (singular) is a DependencyProperty and can be databound to a property in the ViewModel. SelectedItems (plural) is not a DependencyProperty.

Thankfully the answer is very simple: Use EventToCommand to call a Command in the ViewModel, and pass the SelectedItems collection as parameter. For example, if the command in the ViewModel is declared as follows:

public RelayCommand<IList> SelectionChangedCommand
{
  get;
  private set;
}

and (in the MainViewModel constructor):

SelectionChangedCommand = new RelayCommand<IList>(
  items =>
  {
      if (items == null)
      {
          NumberOfItemsSelected = 0;

  });

Then the XAML markup becomes:
